Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about GoElectrified plans and home electrification.

What is included in "electrification?"

Besides heat pumps for heating and cooling, electrification typically includes: heat pump water heaters, induction cooktops and ranges, electric dryers, solar panels and battery storage, and electric vehicle charging. Weatherization (insulation and air sealing) is often done alongside electrification to improve comfort and lower how much energy you need.

When done right, electrification can improve comfort, eliminate your risk of rising energy costs, increase home value, and help create a cleaner, healthier home.

A GoElectrified plan is a personalized analysis of your home’s energy use and electrification options. It answers what upgrades make sense, what size heat pumps and solar systems should be, and what to do first—so you can decide with confidence.

A heat pump is an electric system that both heats and cools your home by moving heat in or out of the house (instead of burning fuel to create heat). It’s much more efficient than a furnace and air conditioner—often delivering 2–3x or more useful heating or cooling per unit of electricity—and can replace both in many climates.

We start with your home, your energy usage, and your goals, then show you realistic options. The plan is a decision-making tool first.

It depends on your home, climate, utility rates, and goals. Our plan uses your actual data to show which upgrades make sense, in what order, and what can wait—so you don’t overspend or undersize.

Our complete plan includes enough solar to eliminate your utility bill, except the connection fee (with net metering). This means your electric bill will GO DOWN AS LOW AS $10-20 FOREVER!

If you’re heating with gas, your bills are likely to go up when you install a heat pump unless you add solar. Why? Natural gas is a much cheaper energy source than electricity. Unless you use an expensive fuel to heat, like fuel oil or propane, your bills are likely to go up. (Here is a comprehensive study of this question by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory which says as much.)

How much your bills will go up, and how much solar you will need, are part of the plan we provide. These answers depend on the specifics of your home, your energy use, and local electricity and gas rates. Our plans use your actual usage and rates to show realistic bill impact before you decide. We also calculate the amount of solar you need to provide all your energy in your all-electric home, so you are no longer vulnerable to raising rates.

Solar can reduce or completly offset what you pay the utility by generating your own electricity. How much it helps depends on system size, your usage, rates, and incentives. A GoElectrified plan shows how solar fits with your electrification plan and what you can expect for bills over time. Every GoElectric plan that has solar includes enough solar to eliminate your electric bill (with net metering, except the connection fee). This means your electric bill will GO DOWN AS LOW AS $10-20 FOREVER!

Efficient electric equipment uses less energy per unit of heating or cooling, and solar can provide all the electricity you need. Our plans show how different upgrades (including solar and batteries) affect your exposure to future rate changes so you can make choices that fit your goals. Every GoElectric plan that includes solar is designed to eliminate your electric bill except the connection fee (with net metering). This means your electric bill will never go up due to rising electric rates!

Yes, we show you financing options and incentives so you can make a plan that fits your budget. We can help you choose from solid financing options and apply for them.
